Hollywood is packed with famous celebrities. There are so many to choose from that it can be hard to think of who is the “best” or “most popular.” A lot of times, it is based on personal opinion. This article will name a few of the major actors and actresses in Hollywood today.
Famous Hollywood Females
Two prominent actresses in Hollywood are Sandra Bullock and Natalie Portman. Sandra Bullock is an Academy Award-winning American actress and producer who rose to fame in the 1990s after roles in blockbuster hits such as Speed, A Time to Kill, and While You Were Sleeping (one of my all-time favorite films!). She has since been in numerous successful films including Miss Congeniality, The Lake House, The Proposal, and Crash, which received critical acclaim. For her role of “Leigh Anne Tuohy” in the film The Blind Side, Bullock was awarded a Golden Globe Award for Best Actress, a Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Leading Role, and the Academy Award for Best Actress. She has been listed in the 2012 Guinness Book Of World Records as the Highest Paid Actress of all time with $56 million.
Natalie Portman is an actress with dual American and Israeli citizenship. Her first role was in the 1994 French action film Léon, but major success came when she was cast as “Padmé Amidala” in the Star Wars prequel trilogy (released 1999, 2002, and 2005). She enrolled in Harvard University to study psychology in 1999 and completed her bachelor’s degree in 2003, all while working as an actress. Portman has starred in many successful blockbuster hits, including Black Swan, Closer, Garden State, and Where the Heart Is. She has received many awards for her various roles in films such as: one Academy Award for Best Actress for her role in Black Swan, two Golden Globe Awards for Best Supporting Actress and Best Actress for her role in Closer and Black Swan, respectfully, and has won and been nominated for many other awards.

Denzel Washington
Two prominent actors in Hollywood are George Clooney and Denzel Washington. George Clooney is a world-renown actor, film director, producer, and screenwriter. He made his acting debut on television in 1978, but didn’t gain fame and recognition until his role on the long-running medical drama ER. Soon after, he began getting lead roles in movies. Some of Clooney’s most notable films include Out of Sight; O Brother, Where Art Thou?, and Michael Clayton. He has received many awards and nominations for his roles in various films, as well. He has been nominated for two Academy awards and two Golden Globes, and has won one Academy Award and one Golden Globe, among many other wins and nominations. Clooney has also been very successful in his directing, producing, and screenwriting. He is currently in the post-production stages of Gravity, in which he has a starring role.
Denzel Washington is an American actor, screenwriter, director, and film producer. He first rose to prominence when he joined the cast of the medical drama, St. Elsewhere, playing “Dr. Philip Chandler” for six years. He has received much acclaim for his work in films since his television days, and has starred in many blockbuster hits such as Cry Freedom, Malcolm X, and The Hurricane, all of which he portrayed real-life figures. Other popular movies that Washington has starred in include John Q, Man on Fire (one of my favorite movies), and The Book of Eli. Washington has been nominated for, and has won, many reputable awards for his acting, as well. He has won two Academy Awards, two Golden Globes, and a Tony Award, among many other wins, and has been nominated for countless others.
Famous Hollywood Teens
Dakota Fanning and Josh Hutcherson are two famous teen actors. Dakota Fanning is an American actress who had her breakthrough performance at the age of seven in 2001’s I Am Sam. As a child actress, she appeared in many high-profile films including Man on Fire, War of the Worlds, and Uptown Girls. She began the transition to more adult roles with her role in The Secret Life of Bees and Hounddog. She has even gained a role in the popular The Twilight Saga. Though she is still a teenager, Fanning has been nominated for and has won more awards than many adult actors and actresses. Currently, Fanning is filming Effie, a movie in which she plays the title role of “Euphemia ‘Effie’ Gray.”
Josh Hutcherson is an American film and television actor. He began working in the early 2000s, appearing in several minor film and television roles. He gained wider exposure with major roles in the 2005 films Little Manhattan and Zathura, the 2006 comedy RV, and the film adaptations of Bridge to Terabithia and Journey to the Center of the Earth. On March 30, 2008, Hutcherson won a Young Artist Award (for Leading Actor). Some popular films Hutcherson has starred in include Kicking & Screaming, The Polar Express, and The Kids Are All Right. Currently, he is set to play “Robert” in the Red Dawn remake and “Peeta Mellark” in the upcoming 2012 film The Hunger Games.
